With 2011 well and truly started, it's time to look ahead to what's going to be popular throughout 2012, for textile design. For the last four years we've been predicting what's going to be hot, and this year is no different. We're starting off with a quick over look with more defined trends coming later on this year. So let's start the trends off with an look at the ten most popular styles for design for 2012.
Abstract Elements

Taking inspirations from the earth with colours sampling soil, foliage and flora, this more grown up version of tie die is going to be big with the friends of the earth for a natural organic look.
Baroque Opulence

Baroque has always been floating in and out of popularity and over the last few years it's been or a new surge thanks to how well it works with vintage. For 2012, expect to carry on seeing rich colours, symmetrical patterns and expensive textiles.
Bohemian Folk

Geometric shapes, Paisleys and floral images combine together to create a new style, a hybrid if you will of some previous trends. Some interesting colour combinations can be created.
Eastern Colour Block

Bright vivid colours on white backgrounds sum up Bauhaus and Mondrian and this is going to be a popular choice for 2012. Although expect to see more colours and even some curves added to the classic design.
Ink Blot Camo

The organic look has always been popular, but adding in the twist of camoflage and water colour ink blots and your on to a winner over the next year.
Photobased Prints

Not just standard prints either, slightly edited prints. Bright colours and often macro shots of organic subjects work best.
Pop Art Conversationals

Pop art will continue to be popular, but with the almost over done Andy Warhol style people are starting to switch over to the Roy Lichtenstein's almost comic book style.
Shanghai Florals

We've been a big fan of Asian inspired floral prints for years and for 2012 they are back. Bold colours mixed with nuetral tones. Bold or washed out, off whites and mixtures of textures, the options are endless.
Tribal Wash

Ethnic art has always been popular, so have washed out and faded art, but why not try using a combination of the two? Will work well with worn out furniture and wooden floors.
Under The Microscope

Every year we seem to get more digital and more scientific. So it was only a matter of time before people started to appreciate the natural beauty of viruses and organisms from under a microscope. Adding in bold colours with deep backgrounds for something striking and unique.
