Japanese Manga Art and Manga Wall Art
Manga consist of comics and print cartoons (sometimes also called "komikku". They are always produced in the Japanese language and conform to the style developed in Japan in the late 19th century. In their modern form, Manga art dates from soon after World War II, but they also have a long, complex pre-history in earlier Japanese art. In Japan, people of all age groups read Manga comics. The medium includes works in a broad range of genres: romance, action, sports, adventure and games, historical drama, comedy, science fiction and fantasy, mystery, horror, sex, and business among other forms. In fact, since the 1950's, Manga Wall Art has become a major part of the Japanese publishing industry, representing a multi billion dollar market. Traditional Manga art is often printed in black-and-white, although full-color Manga exist (e.g. Colourful). In Japan, manga are usually printed in giant Manga magazines, often containing lots of individual stories, each introduced in a single episode to be continued in the next issue. If the series is successful, they will be republished in paperback books. In this section dedicated to Manga art, you will find a selection of japanese and Manga influenced retro art, based on small enlarged sections of original "komikku" comic books.
