Size and Shape:

So with a minimum of 10"x10" going all the way up to 72"x36" (6ft x 3ft!) there's a huge number of options. A word of warning, don't get the biggest you can afford, buy the most suitable for the space.

I, personally prefer bigger, however, something too big can make a room feelcramped. In contrast, a canvas to small will get lost and look out of place. Its not ideal to hang a canvas too close to the ceiling, doors or windows, try leaving a sizeable gap of up to a couple of feet as a border. You may also want to hang the canvas at eye level (the middle of the canvas at approximately 5ft6 of the ground to be at the average eye height). Note, this may not be possible with larger pieces.

The shape of the canvas has a lot to do with personal taste, so if your not sure, a square canvas will be safe in most rooms. If you have a long thin room however, you might want to think about picking a long thin canvas (like 60"x16") and hang on the long wall, or a smaller (ie 36"x36") square canvas for the short wall (to help square off the room)

Hanging a canvas above a fireplace is an great way to transform a room, and as a general rule, picking a canvas in the same proportions works very well. If the wall above your fireplace is 3m wide and 1.5m high, going for the same (2:1) ratio will fit, for this as a 72"x36" canvas will look simply stunning!

Colour:

When deciding on a colour scheme for a room, don't just pick the first colour you can think of,give it a bit of time, think about the use of the room, consider the people who will converging in the space, and get some sample pots of paint. All colours have a unique energy & personality, so getting the colour spot on is the key to a successful space. The list of colours below works for the colour you decorate the space, and also works for the colours on any canvas you may be looking at. Try and resist the temptation to paint your fav colour, even if it feels weird for that room, and don't be scared to ask someone you know for some advice. They may add the perfect hints that you hadn't considered.

Red: One of the warmest & most seductive colours, red works well in a room your passionate in. It is Ideal for dinning rooms & kitchens, although it works well with red as a main colour with a more subtle as a second colour. Red will not work in your bedroom though, as it notorious for inducing nightmares..

Orange: is fantastic for brightening rooms such as kitchens. A warm and vibrant colour, it helps stimulate the appetite use it in areas designed for food preparation. Its also great for stimulating the mind and helping the brain to focus, so offices and study's would also be ideal.

Yellow: is similar to orange, being great for kitchens. It would also its also perfect for small cramped downstairs toilets. This bright and bold colour is more effective as a mood lifter as a full on yellow rather than a pale yellow.

Green: A great earthy colour, and a good nature colour. The vibrancy helps promote well being and symbolises healthy lifestyles. It feels warm and helps sooth the mind. It will work well in any relaxing room, so look to bedrooms, living spaces & conservatories.

Blue: is a calm and clean colour. It's peaceful & refreshing & at the same time can come across as a very cold colour. It also works well in areas you'd want to be clean and hygiene, such as the bathroom, but can also work well in the bedroom because it can induce that awake, refreshed feeling in the morning. You could also consider mixing with striking bright white for maximum impact!

Purple: and violet are the definitive glamour colours. A Modern bold purple has seen a massive rise in popularity in the last decade or so, being the colour of 2008. Helping to get you creative, this rich, a little bit feminine colour works wonders in rooms that you want to be cosy in, bedrooms, living rooms, library/studies are perfect for this, and can also work with the more rustic or eclectic residence.

Pink: being the most feminine colour by far, it's also a luxurious and romantic colour. If you blokes are a little scared of the message it will give off, you could try mixing with purples or reds to break it up.
White: is the purest of all colours & works with any colour, Using off whites to compliment colours can be great at helping expand the mood, but try to stop a colour from over powering a room. It works well anywhere, and especially small rooms, where it helps make them feel larger. Bathrooms are perfect for white, you will achieve that clinical, clean finish.

Done correct, black can be a timeless classic, it is bold and authoritative. Consider this in your hallways and dining room and match with gold, bronze and silver accessories.

Brown: is the original earth colour. Warm and homely browns are calming, so work well in relaxing rooms such as the bedroom or living room.

As well as the above, there are two types of colour that you can get on canvas that are not mentioned above.

So you've found the perfect canvas print, and it's just arrived. Hopefully your feeling chuffed with your choice of art and in going with WHoArtNow. But what now? How exactly do you hang a canvas print on the wall? There are many ways of doing it, but we think there are only 3 that are worth considering.

Wire Method:  Some people may already have a picture hanging set in their tool box and if so, you should find some art wire in there. To attach this wire to the canvas, screw a pair of small screws into the reverse of the canvas frame on the little lip. Then tie the wire to one of the ends. Now pull the wire nice and tight and wrap it around the other screw to keep the tension in the wire. Once the tension is high enough, tie the second side off. Now hammer a nail into the wall where you want to hang your canvas print. Hook the wire over the screw, make sure it's level by using a spirit level. Stand back and enjoy.

Mirror Plates: These small brass plates are easily available from a lot of high street stores (Wilkinson's) or the larger DIY stores (B&Q) for small amounts of money. They come with the screws and are easy to use. There are two ways to mount them, on the outside (see picture left). This makes mounting easy. Once the mirror plates are on, and you've put two screws (and raw plugs) into the wall (remembering to use a spirit level to get them level) you just have to pop the hole in the mirror plate over the screw end and let the canvas drop into place. The other way to mount them is reversing the mirror plate so it's hidden on the inside. This is aesthetically better than having them on the outside, but makes it a lot harder to hook the mirror plates into the screw ends.

3M Command Strip:  The final way we recommend you mount your canvas is by using the ingenious 3M Command Strips. We got some of these a couple of years ago to test and were amazed at how practical they are! What you buy is the heavy weight (3kg) bathroom hooks. Then attach the little sticky pad to the back of the hook, then attach the hook to the wall! Simple! Now wait an hour for it to bond properly (and of course use your spirit level if using more than 1 hook!) then just slot your canvas on to the hooks! We recommend you use 1 hook for the small canvases (upto 16"x16"), 2 hooks for medium (24"x16" - 48"x32") and 3 hooks for anything larger. Yes we admit this is the most expensive way to hang a canvas print, but they have one massive advantage. There's no drilling involved so no mess! Plus when you come to move (either house or just the print) you can not only peel off the sticky pad and reuse the hook, but the sticky pad leaves no residue or marks! Which is great if your in rented accommodation and can't drill holes.
