Can Tablet Computers Really Challenge Art?
For thousands of years artists have created their masterpieces on many different types of canvases and materials, from linen and cotton over the centuries through to ultra modern metal and vinyl to showcase artwork this industry has evolved. In recent years a perhaps unlikely challenger in the form of computer tablets has forced its way in to art world with both artists and art fans alike using them to showcase their favourite pieces of art. In 2010 globally renowned artist David Hockney decided to put down his paintbrush and create an exhibition with art through Ipads, not canvases. Many artists have followed his lead, creating art through interactive, online programmes without picking up a brush and just using their finger on the touch screen tablets as an alternative. Apple, the creator of Ipad's have thousands of art applications available to download, some suit more experienced artists while others have training for novices.
Around the UK there are a lot of chic bars, cafes and galleries that are turning to interactive art in a bid to get the younger generation creating their own works of art and increasing the passion for finger painting. With the popularity of art being created by using computer tablets on the increase, should traditional art lovers, critiques and artists be worrying about the impact it will have on fine art on canvases or will it be embraced as a new style of art instead of a challenger to age old techniques? Time is always the best judge of how well a sweeping style of art will dominate or fade away in some cases. In the last half century there have been many new styles of art such as pop, graffiti, metal, street and urban art to name a few that have emerged and grown in popularity on a global scale. There will always be a demand for canvases and canvas prints from a cost perspective, after all it would cost thousands of pounds as a minimum investment to decorate a whole property with Ipads or other tablets, again time may change that issue; we shall watch this eagerly.

How to Create Pop Art
Pop art is a style of art that has captured the imagination of art lovers since the 1950s era and has gone from strength to strength in lots of different formats and designs ever since. From early pioneers of pop art such as Andy
Warhol, Eduardo Paolozzi and Jasper Johns through to modern renowed creators of pop art styles such as Aya Takano, it seems this very bold, unique art sector has unlimited acclaim generation to generation. Many people have tried and failed to create their own pop art style, perhaps looking to over complicate things a little too much or not having the required inspiration for this style of art, whatever the reason there are some foundations and mechanics behind pop art that will help you learn how to create your own pop art. Pop art is very much about raw attitude and a willingness to take the ordinary things from daily life and culture whilst blending it with with completely unrelated materials.
Taking inspiration from popular culture such as news, comic book heroes and celebrities to name a few and mixing them with a blend of vibrant colours or other unrelated images will give you an idea of how to create a basic pop art piece. Andy Warhol was famous for taking advertising and popular icons of the day and either mixing them with colour and objects at times or creating multiple images of the same face with different finishes applied to each image, examples of this are his work with Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe respectively where he showcased these two famous faces of the day individually across multiple images with the only differences being the blend of colours or tone and pattern in each section.
Whatever the inspiration you choose the golden rule when learning how to create pop art is to choose the image of inspiration and perhaps start by making a piece with four to six portraits of the same image all with different colour, texture, tone and pattern. Once you have chosen the image you must then outline the image to get the shape and highlight the different dark and light areas of the image, making a bold or strong outline will help you define your varied tones, patterns and colours later on.

Artist Spotlight - Hendrik
Hendrik is an East Midlands based digital artist, specialising and excelling in vector artwork & illustrations. He tries to distances himself from the modern age & keep's his feet (in his '94 Air Max's) firmly in the past. Inspired in part by the whole of the 1960's, [the fashion, the interiors, the Psychedelia, the whole movement] Also, New Wave & pinup erotica in the late 1970's, the bad haircuts & crap movies in the 1980's, the Sega Mega Drive in the 90's. And the decade you may ask? Well not a lot, except the Apple M.ac has set him up well...! A clear Nostalgic junkie, you will find some rare gems of the past in his work. Iconic 60's and 70's wallpaper sections, Psychedelic pop icons, Comic Inspired pieces, Germanesque Abstract, classic 70's / 80's cars, the list is endless.

Nancy has a nack for producing, bold powerful art & has a keen eye for solid compositions. Her history lies in textile design, her heart lies in abstract art, although her work normally has to represent some sort of form. In that respect she is not a traditional minimalist artist like Rothko, but rather one of the new wave of post modern digital artists. You will normally fine earthy colours, from rich browns and gold's to vogue greys with subtle contemporary accent colours, like cerise pinks, mint greens, tangerine oranges. contemporary greys. She is an old skool traditionalist at heart, so most of her work features brush strokes, a subtle amount of texture or grain. Inspiration comes from traveling, particularity the East, so expect to find a healthy amount of Buddhist influence, crossed with Japanese textiles, cherry blossom tattoos and dusky, polluted city sunrises.
